EXCHANGE PAVILION

Standing as an imposing metaphor in a “no man’s land”, not only for the dynamics at present of the frontier life but also as Daniel Ruanova reflection of his own work, EXCHANGE PAVILION is an attempt to materialize, facilitate and celebrate the trade, or better fitting, the dialogue.

The bridge-like land structure presents a space for merging, lending itself to erase the borders present and somehow transport its habitants to an undefined space where the exchange of ideas, culture, assets and anecdotes can occur. This intention is reflected on the utilitarian aspect the pavilion is considered for, as it intends to host a myriad of events such as conferences, exhibitions, festivals, workshops and more.

The structure is a collaboration between HELEO + design team and Daniel Ruanova studio for the World Design Capital SAN DIEGO TIJUANA 2024 edition, in which EXCHANGE PAVILION is this year’s production. It will be open to the public from August 17th to November 15th, 2024 at Balboa Park, where after it will be moved to San Diego for further exhibitions.

Daniel Ruanova’s work keeps blurring the border of art and architecture ever more than before, as EXCHANGE PAVILION presents itself as more than art, thanks to its architectural purpose and utilitarian intentions.
